Don't assume surnames come from fathers.

I have been searching for a connection between two girls born 1843 and 1846 who shared a surname and second Christian name. At first I thought they were sisters. But they had different parents. Then I assumed the fathers were brothers. But the fathers are not related, at least for the two generations back I could get them. Then I realised the mothers were sisters. Imagine two sisters marrying two unrelated men, and all four (two brides and two grooms) have the same unusual surname. And both men are hat makers! So a tip if you are searching connection. Believe anything is possible!! |
