TinaTheCheshirePussyCat Report 12 Aug 2006 20:06

I am looking for a marriage in the surname of Pohl for 1925 onwards. I go to the year, then the quarter, then the letter P. Now, PO is a good half way through the Ps and there are 37 (or so) pages of Ps, so I want to jump to, say, page 20. But it won't let me. I put 20 in the page number box and click Go, but nothing happens. The only way I can progress through the Ps is by clicking Next, 20 or so times to get to where I want to be. With 4 quarters a year, and possibly several years to search, this is going to take for ever. It's been like this for several days. Are other people having the same problem? It certainly used to let me go straight to the page number which I specified. Tina

Sounds like you are doing it the hard way. If you know the name, even just the surname, and this one is not common, then enter that in the search boxes and select the year you want and the range. You shuyld then get several index entries that you can select and inspect. I just tried it and it is working now. Jim

Oh dear, Jim. What can I say? I have been absent from Ancestry for a while, saving up to renew my sub (had a slight cash flow crisis - again!). While I was away they must have sneaked that search box in - I'm sure it wasn't there when I last looked! Thank you for drawing it to my attention. How many months might I have gone before I spotted it? Doesn't bear thinking about. I have found the marriage I wanted. I shall now crawl back under my stone and ponder on the degeneration of my brain. Tina (feeling particularly stupid)

Well I know the Cheshire cat was famed for disappearing, but I hope the smile remains. Glad you found it - since quarter 4 of 1925 seems to be totally missing from the index Happy hunting Jim

Jim: I remember finding that quarter missing when I was doing a trawl a couple of months ago. Reported to Ancestry at the time but perhaps they haven't got the images either. J

Tina - are you using Firefox - if so have a look at elaine in Spain's thread this afternoon (I'll bump it) she had an identical problem which we solved. Jools

Hi Jools Thanks for your help. I do use Firefox. (Can't work out how to discover which version I am on but when I checked for updates it said I didn't need any). I think I am sinking into senility tonight. I can't work out what it was that Elaine did which cured the problem for her! My settings are the same as yours. Must be being particularly thick tonight - I hate it when the computer beats me! Tina
