Ok going to show my ignorance here. I know how to view the IGI batch numbers for christenings and mariages pre formal registration in 1837. Can any one tell me whether there is a similar thing for deaths?burials at parish churches? or were these simply not listed on parish registers? If they were listed why are they not included in the igi lists? I am looking to find a burial and need to know eher best to start. Unfortunately its one of those areas that 'moves' from county to county according to what date (which is at the mo unknown but is certainly pre reg) and the records for this area are split between the three offending counties. The only silly question is the one not asked! Parishes kept burial registers, just like baptism and marriage registers. They usually give the name and age of the person buried as well as date of burial (sometimes death date) and the parish they were from, if buried in a different one. BUT there are hardly any extracts from burial registers on the IGI - I think because the IGI was set up for Mormons for religious rather than genealogical reasons. Any deaths I've found have been personal submissions. Burial registers are at county records offices, but you may find what you want on www.familyhistoryonline.net - it has a number of burial records. But check before you pay that the parish and time scan you want are covered. nell

I find the FamilyHistory site a good place to pick up burials and monument inscriptions.

The Mormons (LDS) do not transcribe burials because their religion teaches them that no-one is dead. However, if you look at one of their films, they have usually (not always) filmed the burials too, probably because its too much faffing about to leave them out. OC
