Thanks Georgina. I've gone back to the image and blown it up to 200%. It's a rather blurred typewritten 'w', which I can just see doesn't come to a point like a 'v'. Being typewritten it's squashed into the same space as a 'v'. There's nothing yet to explain why he died there, but that's a mystery for another day. His only son emigrated to Australia and I have no idea where or when his wife died. J

Some parts of Ewecross are in what is now Lancashire, so I suppose they could have been born there and lived in Wirral. Remember where they died and where they lived are 2 different things. She could have died while on holiday !! I had trouble convincing someone of this the other day - they were convinced he'd died in Essex when the death I found was registered in Torquay - until they spoke to a rellie who said 'oh yes, he died in Torquay while on a holiday'

Usually, if you right click on the district it will tel you where it is. If this won't work - put up the details and I will have a look. Dea x

Just found a rellie's 1947 death in the Ancestry BMD index. The registration district is given as Evecross 2c. No luck googling it. Family lived on the Wirrall. Any ideas please? J
