Well here goes...Thomas Priest(b c1827 Somerstown) and wife Sophia (b c1826 Stockwell). Have got them on 1861 & 1881 but not 1871. Thomas died in 1882. There's more, but just for starters!!! Chris

Think I've tried every which way as they say. Will try again though as sometimes if you have a fresh look, it can all fall into place. Thanks Chris

I've had a John transcribed as a Sher and a Peter today

Hi Chrispy Noodle, Its quite possible that your omissions are MIStranscribed. Have you tried searching with just a first name and date of birth, include county or place of birth if name is common. I´m working on a family with the surname Bouverie this morning (before I throw the whole lot in the bin!!) - the mistranscriptions I have are Borwerie, Bonicrie, Bobbeelie, Bonvini and Romersa !!!! - and I´m not joking with the last name either !!

I think that you can generally find most folk on ancestry with a bit of thought and experiment. If the handwriting on a census is so naff that it is hard to interpret I doubt if a different transcriber will necessarily come up with anything more helpful. I've found Ancestry's 1861 easier to find folk than the 1837online one. But the biggest problem is that the part of London I need for husband's relatives isn't on either of them! nell

Hello campers Bucketing down outside....but we need it I suppose. Ideal excuse to get back on the case. I think I have more or less tracked all I can on the censuses on Ancestry. Is it worth signing up with another site in the hope that their transcriptions might be different? Have a number of omissions to find and just wonder if I'd have better luck somewhere else...Have found 1837 expensive and obviously their census coverage not as good as Ancestry. Any advice?
