Birth reg puzzle

In part of my husband's tree there's a person who had three given names, but only used the first on his wedding cert. I think that may have been because the middle two look like a paternity claim! (Birth & Marriage have ''father unknown''). Sometimes people just don't use a name they've been given - or acquire new names on the way. My grandmother was registered at birth as ''Alice'', used ''Harris'' at 1901 census (I thought it was an enumerator error, but my cousin thinks not) and had an additional first name by the time she died as ''Roma Alice''. Many thanks for the replies. Both of these people only have two given names, First and Middle name, both written in full on the birth reg. So the H is still a mystery

So, you mean it says John H Bloggs not John Bloggs H If the first, then its the initial of his middle name I should think. OC

Is it not just the initial of a 2nd given name? Only one given name is written in full in more recent years. Gwyn

As I said the search was for people still alive, one in 1966 and one in 1989 a father and daughter, so I would rather not put the names on here.

Have just looked up two birth regs, both within the last 40 years. After both of the given names there is the letter H. Why would this be?
