No sorry should have said - the Pleydell Bouveries are a different family My Bouverie family was originally Bouverie de la Houssaye, but they dropped the last part of the name in the previous generation to Walter - and from then on just used the Bouverie part of the surname.

Walter and his siblings were orphaned in 1868 and 3 of them ended up in the Portsea Workhouse. I would not be surprised if the Walter born in 1876 is an illegitimate child of Minnie - but I until I can find out Minnie´s maiden name then I can´t check that !

Wow - thanks for that - I have almost given up on this family - you can´t imagine how many mistranscriptions of the name I have found!! Its possible that Walter was born in London - his father Charles was Principal Warden at Millbank prison in 1845´ish but then moved down to Portsea prison. I also found a death for a Minnie Bouverie in 1892 (born in 1886) registered in Poplar - so looks as if she could have been one of the family.. At least I know they were still around in 1901 - will definitely get one of the children´s birth certificates and I´ll have another look in 1891 to see if they turn up somewhere (probably under another mistranscribed name). Many many thanks for your help. Elaine
