I have just uploaded my lastest tree to genes and have selected from the 'my account details' to hide living rellies but it has not worked....has anybody else noticed this?? Deb

I think it will only hide them from other people, won't it? Heather

Yeh, Thats what I thought so I re registered under a new name and searched the names of my living and they were there??

I think the names show when you do a search but are hidden when you give access to your tree,not sure though. Heather

can you use your old account to contact your new account and give yourself access?Then you'll see what contacts can see....(confusing myself now) lol. Heather

Deb The names show up in a name search, but show as living and the surname when you give access to your tree. Pointless really. I was given access to a tree recently, some of the later rellies were shown as living. I went to the search option and put in the surname and the place. I knew the name of the person who gave me access of course, and lo and behold there were all the names I was missing on the tree. LOL

That's interesting Margaret. I expect more people are adding gedcoms containing details of living people thinking that they are safely hidden. Heather

I've just tested it out, and mine works! I have an account that I don't pay for, hidden the living ones, allowed myself access on this account and I can't see who my parents are! Suex

Hi Everyone Yes, I did set up a new account with different email....but I did not upgrade this account so did not think I could exchange trees/messages with my other account sooooooo I asked a contact of mine to check and he says all my living rellies are hidden....but you are right, what is the point when you can piece together the missing names in a name search. The only reason I uploaded my new tree was because I thought it would be easy to hide my living rellies from all elements of genes. Now I will have to go through all the names one by one and change them... I wish I hadn't bothered now!!!! Thanks everyone Deb

Deb, when you get your tree out of ftm before you upload it to here, can you not choose to 'hide' living people?

Hi Tom I use Roots Magic and I seem to remember choosing that option before but I didn't work properly??? I will have to try again :-( Deb
