Thanks Dea and Janet The very nice man at the crem said funeral directors do not keep records going back to 1949 .... Yes i know where he lived and the local paper so could go to central library and look on fiche ... Sadly my parents fell out with my grandmother and i have no idea where her personal things went. Have thought janet ... that they maybe interned or scattered somewhere close to grans home .... they were staunch methodist cannot believe she would just scatter them anywere There are two cemetariea that were closer to her than the one he was cremated at so possibly they were taken to either or but will check local paper .... thanks again Patricia xxx |

Sounds like best bet would be to try and contact funeral director, who may have a record of whom the ashes were delivered to, or if they had been given instructions to disperse them in a certain place. Presumably you know where grandad lived - there may have been an obituary notice in the local paper and usually the funeral director is named, re sending flowers or donations. Would there have been a will, containing instructions for a cremation and what was to happen to the ashes? Another possibility, if grandad lived in a town with no crematorium, then the ashes may be interred in his local churchyard/cemetery or in a place that had special significance for that family. Jay |

Can you boil brandy or would it ignite??? No, seriously, where and when did this take place? Perhaps someone would have an idea if you put up some details. Dea x |

Big sigh .... waited 3 months for my appointment to do my own search at cemetary to see if my grandfather was cremated there .... Got there cos it was quiet the young man did it for me .... yes he was cremated there .... big happy face ..... soon lost that cos whilst yes he was cremated there his ashes are not there .... on the notes it says collected by REP .... he thinks this will mean funeral directors .... so where are they .....???? There was also a four figure number in the three thousands which he wondered if it was a niche or a plaque but no they are not up in the three thousands yet .... WHERE ARE YOU GRANDAD???? .... where do i look now, any idea's ..... ????this could drive one to drink .... think i will put kettle on lol Patricia xxx |
