my g-grandfather was married from 29 Hillingdon St Newington in 1894, as was his brother. I have looked for him in the 1891 census but cannot find him or his brother. I am sure they both or one of them must have been living at this address in 1891 but i cant seem to find this street on any census, both surnames were Hughes, does anyone know if the census could have missed out on a street, thanks very much for any help |

I have found with my ancestors that they moved frequently. I presume they rented houses or rooms and it was easy to move on. Can we help find them for you? Need their year and place of birth and other family names if possible. Anne |

It is possible the page (or part of a district) is missing,or they may simply be mistranscrbed. Sometimes when searching the census,it is best to not put the surname,or look for an alternative spelling just in case. Glen |

Hillingdon Street was just off the Walworth Road in Newington ward, Southwark. Can I guess that you were looking around Stoke Newington on the other side of London? |

Thanks very much, Arthur Hughes was born 1869 Clerkenwell and his brother Alfred was born 1864 clerkenwell, mother was Sarahand father William but deceased. other siblings were William born 1856, Alice born 1858, Clara born 1861, Louisa born 1867 all born Clerkenwell but all seem to flock to Newington or Walworth |

Hmm. The only Arthur Hughes with a mother Sarah is living in Islington on the 1891 census. He's a wheelwright born 1869 in Kingsland. They certainly seem to be hiding. Have you found Arthur on the 1901 census? I can't seem to see a likely one there either. Anne |

Hillingdon street was previously called Hill Street. |
