Hi everyone, Thanks for all your replies, I phoned my local Dundee Registry offfice and they take £13:50 per certificate, they also told me this will go up when the new post office regulations regarding size of envelopes changes soon. It is cheaper fro Edinburgh GRO. I just don't know about English certificates, if you are better to get them from GRO or the local office whichever it is. Betty |

My local office in Nottingham are fantastic you go in they look there and then for the birth death marriage give you a ticket you pay £7 and ya can fetch it after 10am next morning. Ive had a few from there (so they grin at me when I walk in now lol) and the service each time has been exceptional. and a lot better than waiting weeks n weeks for certs from online (tho of course further afiield rellies I still have to order online) Luv Angie xxx |

Gerry What makes you think local offices are cheaper? You shouldn't pay more than £7 no matter where you order from. Kath. x |

Usually a local office will search the whole of a year for a birth or death (so if you say birth of Joseph Brown 1905 they check all of 1905 and possibly into 1906 too) They are slightly more strict with marriages, usually asking for the place of marriage,it depends how many marriage venues they keep records for, some of the centralised county offices might have 300 parishes on the shelf. Christine, I'm interested that you find it increases your chances of not being sent the wrong certificate?? I must be lucky and have never been sent the wrong one (not unless I ordered the wrong one in the first place!) An extra £1.50 ia a lot to pay. Anne |

Good grief!!! Out of curiosity I tried the site Betty mentioned. I had to fill in a whole (false!) form before it told me the price. £23 or £50. They certainly aren't up front with the 'terms' - what a rip off! Anne |
