This info also comes from the google hits: http://www.crockford.org.uk <<< Is it possible to trace information from an old printed edition of Crockford? Yes. An archive of old editions of Crockford is maintained at Lambeth Palace Library. Requests for archival information from earlier editions should be addressed in writing to Lambeth Palace Library: The Librarian, Lambeth Palace Library, Lambeth Palace, London SE1 7JU. Fax: (020) 7928 7932. Unfortunately such requests cannot be handled by phone or email. >>> Christine

PS - they have some earlier ones, too, and some Oxbridge College Lists, as well. And if you buy these CDs a chunk of the money is ploughed back into book-conservation. see http://www.rod-neep.*co.uk/ (remove *) Christine

I just googled it and was surprised to find that ArchiveCDBooks has a copy - I suppose I just wasn't looking for it there. <<< Crockford's Clerical Directory 1932 - Biographies(Reference #1003) Crockford's directories are the number one resource for tracing the lives and careers of the clergy. Usually the books also contains a huge amount of reference material relating to the Church in general but sadly this book has had much of the reference material removed. Fortunately the biographies of the clergy are intact and those are what is included on this CD. Each individual biography contains details of where and when he studied and the qualifications he gained, where and when he was incumbent in each of the places he worked (including foreign posts) and also his full address at the time of publication. Price: £15.11 £17.75 Including VAT at 17.5% >>>

I googled it and found this message off someone on another site....sorry if you are that person! The main source for vicars (Church of England clergy) is Crockford's Clerical Directory, which has been published every couple of years since 1858. Very few, if any, libraries will have a full run, though. Before 1858 there are a variety of sources, including: Index Ecclesiasticus - compiled by John Foster, listing clerical appointments 1800-1840 Fasti Ecclesiae Anglicanae - volumes for each diocese listing appointments to senior positions from earliest times to mid-19th century The Clergy Database website at http://www.theclergydatabase.org.uk/ Since at that time most clergy were graduates of Oxford or Cambridge, it's worth looking at the volumes of Alumni for each of these. Some of the Oxford ones are available from Archive CD Books. Methodist lay preachers are another matter. The main collection of Methodist archives is at John Rylands University Library in Manchester http://www.rylibweb.man.ac.uk/data1/dg/text/method.html As far as I know there's little or nothing on lay preachers there.

My Husbands great grandfathers brother was a reverand but we don't know his name. I was wondering if there was any sites which would list names of Reverands/Vicars in England. Or maybe there was any other way I could find out. Thanks Nicola x
