According to my mother, one of my great uncles was/is called Elic Calder, born around 1900. I don't know the spelling, so that's just the obvious guess at it. It's not a name I've heard of, although a quick search on the census shows 91 Elic's (no Calder's, though) living in 1901. Is it a full name, or an abbreviation of something else? Anyone know the origins? |

I did find the name 'Elic', but there was no meaning attached to it. Will keep an eye on it and if a definition comes up will post again. Bex |

Eric, do you have the birth cert or the area he was born. Looking on freebmd there are quite a few Alex(ander) Calder. Maybe someone can find the family for you on the 1901 if you give details. Joan |

Elic Calder is the son of my g.grandfather, William Calder. William was married twice; first to Annie (1891 census, surname unknown), then to Margaret Arkle (m. 14 Apr 1894). Their last child born I have a date for is my grandmother, Elizabeth Pye Calder, in 1903, but I have been told she had younger siblings. All of William's children were born here in Newcastle Upon Tyne. That's all the info I have on Elic. I don't know if he was born before or after my grandmother, or even which Mrs Calder was his mother! Eric |

Hello Eric. I have found your Calder family on the 1901 census and this includes 5 children ; none which could be 'elic'. Next door but one is also a Calder family with two members called Alexander. On freebmd the Calder name is very productive in Newcastle; take a look. To findout the mothers' name of the children you would need to send for the birth certs. Good luck, Joan |
