New thread, so I don't get confused!

Phoenix Report 9 Aug 2006 13:35

To avoid confusion, I'm starting a new thread. Please forgive me for not putting this up sooner, but I have all sorts of personal problems at the moment, not least of them being the continued absence of my laptop. (My IT guy cannot work out how to access the hard drive, but didn't bother to let me know, so he's had it a fortnight without doing anything! And it sounds as if I'll be lucky to be back up and running by the 19th at this rate) It was a really good day on the 5th and I'm so pleased that at least some of those who came found what they wanted. The sight of Anne grinning and wielding a huge cardboard tube containing her photocopies proved that you can strike really lucky. GR members are such a nice bunch of people and it was as much fun to chat over lunch as it was to get to grips with research. If you'd like to come, please add your names to this thread.

Brenda, Thankyou very much for your help on the 5th, in the end only found out the stuff I wanted had been burnt during the war. Never the less I appreciate your valuable help. Celia wanted to do some shopping round the corner so left early. Rod

Carol Report 10 Aug 2006 11:56

Phoenix, Should very much like to come along on the 19th, please. It would be my first visit to Kew and I would feel more comfortable and less intimidated if I knew other GR members were around. Hope to find my Grandfather's WW1 service. Thank you for organising. Regards, Carol

Fi It’ll be great to see you again! Mo So long as it isn’t a John Smith, I’ll take a look. Rod It was lovely to meet you and Celia. It’s a shame that so much was destroyed: it is so rewarding when you do find something. Carol 60% of records were destroyed, as Rod found out, but where they do survive they can provide masses of information. I look forwards to meeting you. My laptop has now been pronounced dead, so I will have few opportunities to log on. From this afternoon I won’t have access until about Monday lunchtime. If I don’t reply, it doesn’t mean I’m ignoring anyone.

Good Morning Brenda, Sorry but I won't be able to make the trip to Kew this Saturday. I'm off to help my MiL with her research. I will definitely watch out for your threads in case you do another trip and hopefully will make that one. Hope everyone who goes has a great time. Anne in North London x

Phoenix Report 17 Aug 2006 18:40

Someone has kindly been nudging this for me. Life without home access to GR is no fun! Sorry you can't make it, Anne, but it sounds as if you'll have a good time with MiL. Anyone coming for the first time, please remember to check that you have the right proofs of identity with you. As usual, we will meet in the entrance hall between 9 and 9.30 and I will spend the morning in the microform room. If you are likely to be late and it's the first time you've been, please let me know.

HI Pheonix, you are very kind it amazes me how everyone is so helpful on here. After conciderable thought and by talking to a few other people, he prolly wouldn't of been in World War 1 as he was a Seargent Major in the durham light infantry. However, my great great grandfathers youngest son Edward Charles Trussell, was in world war 1 he died at war on 16th April 1916. His birth was in 1895 June quarter. Service no: 65712, he was in the Royal Garrison Artillery and was burried at Louez Military Cemetery, Duisans. Even if you could just see if his records are there, I would be extremely greatful. thx again Nicola
