Yes, It IS wonderful Angie - Glad it is making you SSssooo happy !! I have recently received a photo of my Grangmother with my Aunty, who I knew as grownups, but this is of my Gran + my aunty as a child, + another 'aunty' who I never knew as she died at the age of 3. This photo is over 90 years old and must have been taken shortly before the 'little one' died. I can't stop looking at it so know how you must feel. Best wishes, Dea x

I have a similar happy tale.............my mother died when I was seven (I'm 65 now), and my father re-married. My stepmother destroyed all the photos taken prior to the marriage. Earlier this year, I heard from a cousin last seen during the war.........he sent me photos of my maternal grandparents, and two uncles, plus one of my mother. I now know, for the first time really, what she looked like, as for much of the time before her death she was in hospital..................... Reg

aww reggie that's lovely, is odd how some peoples minds work though, not very nice to have all the pics destroyed in first place, but glad that you have some really nice ones through the family, (I can only assume that step mum was jealous of dads previous marriage, and or very insecure) Hugs Julie

Julie You hit the nail on the head..........a very self-centred woman was my stepmother! I'm due to meet up with a cousin very soon.....the sister of the one who provided the photos. As my last contact with any 'real' relations was in 1956, at my father's funeral, you can doubtless guess how much this means to me. Reg

Know how you feel - my mum had a collection of photos of my dad's family from South Shields. Dad died 40 years ago and when my mum moved about 15 years ago she couldn't remember who they were of. Last year I contacted some longlost cousins and one sent me photos of my dad, and of our grandma - the same as one we thought was Dad's mum. She died before my mum and dad ever met, so mum was never sure. I'd love to find a photo of my grandad! Jan

Uncle John Report 9 Aug 2006 20:50

Am I just fortunate or what? Most of my rellies were very long-lived and there have been very few divorces or early deaths. As a result, when my grandson was born he had a full set of grandparents and a half set of great-grandparents. The downside is that he's the last of the line. None of my siblings or first cousins ever had children. J

My Mum show me a picture of my Gr-grandfather last week dating from 1902. I'd seen later pics, from the 1950s & 60's, but this one was amazing. He was about 25, and in the army - Boer War. He was the absolute spitting image of my grandad (his son). He suffered facial injuries in WW1, so I'd never really seen the likeness before. I've also seen a picture of his mother - and she died in 1880, so there aren't many of her. It really brings people to life, doesn't it. Helen
