After probs with my tree on here, could not add names etc. I now have a tree on ancestry. If I should give permssion to share my tree, what exactly does that mean? I have hit a brick wall in a couple of places, no trace of GG grandmother on a census until she is married, can't find birth places for a couple, so I would'nt mind some help but I would'nt like anybody to change what I have.

Hi Linda, Yes, I had problems like that. I was unable to add anything to my tree for quite a few weeks, then...pooooffffff, it now works. (I think the 14lb hammer I used may have had something to do with it lol lol...) I am quite careful as to who I give access to my tree. As you said, we all put a LOT of time and effort into this hobby, nah..torture. lol... and the last thing we want is someone, who may or may not be connected just taking all that work without a thanks. I have found that 99% of the people I have had contact with on GR are very, very helpful and I only hope that as my skills improve I can repay some of that by helping others. Kathlyn

I am a bit reluctant to add my tree to ancestry as some of my information has come from family members who might not want it published. However ancestry world tree seems to store different versions of someone's details rather than just change your entries. I have ancestors who are in several trees and it comes up with ithings like birth Bath Linconshire England 1 tree, birth Midsummer Norton Somerset 2 trees. You can then go to links to the trees concerned and see what details they have and possibly contact the submitter. The new tree format lets you attach census records to the individuals concerned which should help accuracy. For my ancestors alreay on one-world tree I corrected some of the details and then if anyone goes to the section contact members interested in this person they will see my name and can get in touch. They will also be able to see my version of the family history. You can start a new tree on ancestry at any point so it might be worth adding details of individuals that are particularly difficult to trace in the hope someone can give you more information. They don't share details of individuals born in the last eighty-five years.
