Just found a lady who has already got a child before she married. Can't see how I can add him as her child on tree builder - or am I being thick!

I think you have to put the father as 'unknown' 'unknown' - highly annoying but I think the only way, then add the chid. Dea x

You can add another 'partner' to the mother and link the child to the mother and partner 1 instead of to partner 2! If you don't know their name, just put something like a full stop or whatever to signify you don't know their name...don't put unknown, as this will clog up your hot matches!

Strangely the Unknown family is the largest family on GR,with approx 1.7million entries.Never did manage to find the correct ones on the census, and always wary of the bmd refs too,as far as hot matches go,well i can't think of a positive match at any time.Wierd isn't it,so many common names but none of them are mine! You can never place any of them on the IGI either!! Glen

Rebecca

Rebecca Report 8 Aug 2006 20:14

I put mine on as 'mother of' or 'father of' in the first name and the childs first name in the surname bit. R x

I think I'll try that one Rebecca as it looks a bit odd how I have done it! Thanks! Allie x

Does anyone else think how DAFT it is that we have to go to these cunning lengths, to avoid being overwhelmed with stupid and pointless Hot Matches? I would turn them off altogether, but I am terrified of missing information about the ONE person on my tree that I am actively searching for. Is it utterly beyond all known bounds of programming, to allow us to A) Select names on our tree for whom we would welcome a Hot Match B) To select the criteria for that Hot Match, such as 'only John Browns born in 1855 in Manchester' c) Switch off certain common names - I get every Mary Bell ever born anywhere in the world. I agree so much! It's such a waste of time getting names born in Australia when your rellies never moved further than the back garden! Allie ps the missing Dad now looks quite respectable!
