Im missing my g.g.grandfather from when he was born till 1880 when he married. James Weir married in Dec 1880 at Landward New Monkland, Scotland he married Jane Beveridge .. He says hes 23 His parents are listed as David Weir Pit Contractor and Janet Archibald Deceased. 1881 Census in New Monkland age 23 Birth Place Carluke 1891 Census in Larkhall age 35 Birth Carluke 1901 Census in Holytown age 48 Birth Carluke Death in Dennistoun age and I quote 'about 72' So his birth ranges from anywhere from 1847 to 1856 I cant find his parents anywhere or his birth... I have checked the deaths from 1855 to 1880 when he was married for the death of his mother which I cant find which suggests she died before 1855. Is there any other way to find out this ie cemetry records or such. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.. Thanks Mhairi

Unfortunatly I haven't got a clue as I only know James parents names and nothing else at all. It may be a good place to start though.. Thanks Mhairi

I have read that there are no complete records of Scottish burials (before 1855), and as yet most of those that do exist are not available online. You could try Scotsfind at www.scotsfind.org in case there is anything on there to help. Kate.

Thanks Kate having a look at this site right now as I have just found a list of family from the other side of my tree... I have looked at this site before and never picked anything up, so its obviously about time I had a look through old sites.. I stay in Scotland myself not to far from Lanarkshire and wondered if a cemetry trawl would be worth while.. Thanks again for your input much appreciated. Mhairi
