I believe the land registry website can now offer that facility. Not sure how far back it goes though http://www.landregisteronline.gov.uk/ Hope it helps Jeff

Why not try a polite letter with an S.A.E. to the present owners?. They might have the deeds and be able to give you quite a lot of imformation.
