hi jennifer when you look at the census if you scroll down to the census information part it will tell you when the census took place.....they are usually April to June . it gives you a good idea if you know when they were married if they were still living at home or not. And it also helps with births and deaths too. Sylvia |

I suppose a lot depends who was doing the talking,if the head of the house was giving the details perhaps the enumerator assumed a son would be single. I have a couple of peeps born well out of the county, but when hubby (presumably it was him anyway) gave the details they suddenly became born in Lincoln, not Norfolk. Glen |

Thankyou very much. I have another question though if you don't mind. On the 1891 census he is classed as single so if the marriage took place would it not be after 1891? Sorry to be a pain in the hu hum. I must admit that i was drawn to these 2 as well but this was the only reason stopping me. Thanks Jen |

If you go on to the Yorkshire bmd website at the address I gave you and click on the marriages when the list comes up, click on the reference number in the right hand box. This will take you through to a form you can print off. It will also give you the address of the local registry office to send it to. You can give Harry's father's name as a reference point to help you pinpoint it's the right one - if it's not you can ask them to return your cheque. Snowdrops |

Hi was just wondering i am trying to keep to the people i have on my tree and not look any further until i have every certificate for each person. The question is when i search for a marriage eg Harry Whitehead he was single on the 1891 census. I can't find him on the 1901 census and can't find a death. So i am thinking he could of married and not be living with his family but how do you go through all of the 30 marriages and choose a select few of them? or is it a hit and miss process with the certificates? Many thanks Jen |
