Hi everybody, Thanks for all your replies earlier. Just to let you know, I now have a normal service again with the free BMD on Ancestry. I have no idea why this happened perhaps they were changing things in the background. Anyway thanks again. Steve |

Isnt it strange how we can all get varying access? Youd think it would be universal, wouldnt you? I guess they are up to something else then. |

Hi again everybody and thanks for your replies. I have tried rebooting my PC but this has not helped. As I am at work I have tried two other PC's but still the same problem. Heather I can not do as you suggested because when you put the page number you want to jump to in, the go button will not work, so I am stuck with scrolling along which takes forever. Gordon, no there is no box! Elaine, sounds like you are having the same problem as me. Darksecretz, as above I do not have anywhere to input Howell so I am stuck with only choosing H to start with. At this rate it will be quicker to go to the FRC and search through the books! Steve |

hiya, i have just tried this, and have come up with q1 for howell on first attempt, did you put in the actual surname or just the initial?? when you go into the actual birth index, if you put surname in box, and quart and yr, dont go to yrs below the box, ie from 1837 onwards, just put search criteria in box, and hit search, brings up q1 for howell rite away HTH Julie |

Elaine, It appears that the 'go' button isn't working for me either. I've only just noticed this as I usually put the number in and then press 'enter', and that works... Gordon |

I am having the same problem as Steve - he says he gets the front page of the H´s and then has to scroll one page at a time to get where he wants. Heather - you said you can change the page number at the top the image to get where you want to. This hasn´t been working for me for the last few days. I have no alternative other than to scroll through with the arrow key. |

Steve if you are having the same problem I was having a few days ago the search box is missing & you cannot type the name & years you want to search. The only info that appears is select a year and then letters of the alphabet. It should correct itself like mine did, try rebooting your computer. Georgina. |

Steve, Above the list of years, I see a search box, (first name, last name, quarter, year). Are you not seeing this? Gordon |

Steve, you can jump to the H's by changing the page number at the top of the image - by making a educated guess where the H lot will be ! Ive just had a go and it seems to be working ok for me. If you click on full bmd index you then go to a screen where you choose births, deaths or marriage and then you get a further screen where you can fill in name, year range and quarter. |

Hi and thanks for your replies Gwyneth and Georgina. I am still having the same problems. Here is what is happening. I go to the BMD section and choose on the complete BMD Index range for the Births. It then says 'please choose a year range' and I pick 1953. It then says' please choose a month in 1953' and I pick Q1 jan to March It then says'please choose the first letter of a last name' and I pick H. I then get the front page of the H's in 1953 Q1. As I am looking for the name Howell I have to scroll one page at a time, over 90 pages to get where I need to look. It never use to do this before and is a very slow way of search the births. Any ideas please? Steve |

For the Complete 1837-1983 indices, yes, you can select register, year, quarter, initial and then try to get to the page of the index you want. OR you can search for the likely pages you want (The search fields above the year list) For the Partial FreeBDM below it, you can search the indexed parts of the database (or is that the databased parts of the indices?) as normal. You just won't get many hits after around 1910. I hope that makes sense: I didn't get a lot of sleep last night, so I may be rambling... Gordon |

Steve I had the same problem on Ancestry a few days ago & I am a full member, I gave up trying after a few hours but it was back to normal the next day. I think it is when Ancestry are messing with the site, I have just checked and the search boxes seem fine. Georgina. |

You should still be able to search as before. Do you want to give an example and we'll work through it? Gwyn |

Hi, I've just tried to use the free BMD on Ancestry ( I am not a paying member) and it all seems different now. I have not used it for some time but you use to be able to put a surname in and choose the quater and it would take you to that page. Now it lets you choose the year, the quater and the letter the surname begins with and you have to scroll through all the names that begin with that letter. Am I doing this wrong ? Steve |
