A step by step guide to merge individuals can be viewed and printed from the 'online help centre' accessed through the help tab on FTM.(look for the help tab,at the right of the menu selections of FTM family screns) Glen |

All I would add to Richard's reply is to suggest you keep your FTM tree as the 'master' and upload a GEDCOM of it to GR. GR can show fairly complicated relationships but it's not clever enough to create them. J |

No need to start from scratch - load your Gedcom from GR into FTM, then on FTM select one of your duplicated people. Then from the ''people'' menu, select ''merge two specific individuals'', and select the other instance of that person. Repeat for each of your duplicated people! Once you have all your duplicated names merged correctly, you can export from FTM as a Gedcom and re-import it to GR. You'll then find that the GR tree will display the connections correctly. FTM is a lot better than GR for setting out your family tree and difficult marriages can be sorted more easy on FTM ;; If you have tree on here and it is sorted you can make a gedcom and then save on your comp in documents then download into FTM;;; Hope this helps you Babs |

I have 6 different families where 2 of the children have married brothers/sisters of the same family!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know I can't link them together on GR and have to enter the details in twice !! I've recently bought FTM .... does anyone know if FTM has a better system tthan GR that doesnt involve duplicating the same info. If FTM has a better system - is it easier to transfer the info from GR as gedcom file OR start afresh on FTM ????? Angie |
