I have found my G G Grandfather on the 1861Census and the 1851 Census but cannot find him on the 1841 Census. He is William Noble-Nesbitt born about 1803 and married to Barbara ? They have a son James Noble-Nesbitt. How do I send for their marriage certificate when I cannot find when they were married. I really need to get the certificate to find Barbara's maiden name. I have tried lots of places but nothing comes up for their marriage. On the IGI it just says Barbara and the dates don't tally up with the dates on the Census. Can anyone point me in the right direction please. Marina I have been given a very worn and dog eared Death Cert for Barbara and on the back id written (in beautiful writing) J.N.N.10 In the County Court of Northumberland holden at Newcastle transferred from the Principal Registry of the High Court of Justice. Probate Divorce and Admiralty Division (Probate) In the goods of Margaret Nesbitt deceased Between James Noble Nesbitt Plaintiff and Thomas Wilkin Nesbitt Defendants Isabella wife of John Dowling and Noble Nesbitt This document marded N.N. 10 was produced and shewn to James Noble Nesbitt at the time of swearing his affidavitt before me 13th day October 1882. William Hall. A. Cunningham. Have tried Wills and Probate but nothing came up. It reads like a mystery story. Where would I look next to find out what this is. Thanks Marina

James' birth cert will give you Barbara's maiden name. Rose

The IGI marriage date (c1846) doesn't look right! I think that this is them in 1841, if so then they were married before that date: Name: William Neibet Age: 35 Estimated Birth Year: abt 1806 Gender: Male Where born: Northumberland, England Civil parish: St John Hundred: Tindale (East Division) County/Island: Northumberland Country: England Street address: 47 Archway, Newcastle Occupation: Shoemaker Source information: HO107/848/1 Registration district: Newcastle upon Tyne Sub-registration district: St Nicholas ED, institution, or vessel: 1 Folio: 16 Page: 24 William Neibet abt 1806 Northumberland, England St John Northumberland Barbara Neibet abt 1811 Northumberland, England St John Northumberland Ann Weightman abt 1832 Northumberland, England St John Northumberland ...and, on the IGI (ties in with Barbara's date and place of birth according to 1851): BARBARA WEIGHTMAN Birth: 25 DEC 1806 Christening: 05 APR 1807 Shilbottle, Northumberland, England Father: ROBERT WEIGHTMAN Mother: ANN DOWEY ... so, looks like Barbara's maiden name might be Weightman, and Ann Weightman could be her illegitimate daughter (she appears on the 1851 as Ann Nesbit, 18, daughter of William!). Therefore, I reckon that you're looking for William & Barbara's marriage between 1832 (after Ann was born) but before 1841. It could even be before 1837, in which case you'll have to resort to parish registers as that was before civil reg (might explain why the marriage isn't coming up on FreeBMD). Anyway, as Rose pointed out above, your first step would be to get James's birth cert, as this would confirm Barbara's maiden name. Richard

Have received the Birth Cert. for James Noble Nesbitt 1847 Dec Alnwick but sadly it is the wrong one. Wrong parents.------- RICHARD. Grateful thanks for your information. On checking this against the 1851 Census it all matches. I have been trying to find Barbara's maiden name for such a long time. Looks like I will have to go further back to find out where the Noble came from as my maiden name had a hyphen Noble-Nesbitt. Again Many many thanks for your help. Marina
