I have been looking for an ancestor on the 1871 for a few years spent all day today to no avail. I wondered if anyone can tell me how likely it is that the part that I need is missing. I have managed to find the street I need on the 1861 and 1881. But after traling through the enumerators sheets of the correct district and neighbouring I cannot find any mention of the street or those around it. My question is am I likely to find it at Kew? And how easy is it to search Census records there? Thanks in advance |

Are you sure Emma is not a second wife? Is there no child between 1869 and 1874? Or indeed 1865/69? |

Could be second wife if so he was a lucky man having 3 wifes in his lifetime!! Emma was definatly mother of child born in 1874 so if no joy here will maybe order birth of Ellen who was born 1871. |

At the time of the 1871 census there was a major epidemic of smallpox. Have you considered the possibility that he might be away from home, perhaps even in hospital somewhere? |

Sarah, I wonder if it would be worth you putting a thread on records in case anyone has the 1871 on cds? They could tell you if the street were missing completely. |
