I have entered my relatives and ancestors into the same tree on GR as those of my husband. It's geting a bit unwieldy (sp?) and I was wondering if I could separate the two. Can anyone tell me if it is advisable to separate them and if so how do I do it without deleting and entering them all again on one side. What's the norm please? I'm off to bed now but hopefully some kind soul will take pity on my ignorance. Good Night. Jo

Hi Bernard, My tree is only here on Genes Reunited at present. I can't see any obvious and simple way of changing the format. Also, I've been reading a lot of mentions of Gedcom on this site and although I understand what it does I don't know how to go about it. Thanks Jo.

I think you will find that has your tree gets bigger you will need a more sophisticated tree programme than the one on here. A lot of people come up against the problem of cousin marriages at some stage or the need to share just one branch of a tree. Most people use another programme such as family tree maker from ancestry. The who do you think you are disk available for about £10.00 is the 2005 version of ftm and is a good simple programme. To export a gedcom from here to there you click on export gedcom on the side of this screen and a couple of days later genes will send it to you as an E. mail attachment. You can then save this to your desktop and upload it to another family tree programme. It is well worth backing up your tree as this site as witnessed by recent posts can be unreliable at times. I have information on here I am willing to share with strangers and more personal information and photos on ftm.

Thanks Annie, That's easy to understand info and I will certainly go and buy the FTM disc. Jo
