Oh Tom, my lot indiscriminately called each other's kids 'my son, my daughter' - caused me no end of trouble. All my 2 x GGPs were married twice, first wives being mothers of the children, second wives brought in to look after them. But yes - check baptisms of the other children. OC

Pippa, haven't got back that far yet - need to go and search for a baptism of Thomas, who was born c1782. Was limited for time last time I went. Will keep an eye out for those names!

On my tree on here I have William Stenson 1700, Hannah 1736, Mary 1758, Samuel 1742 and William born 1739. They appear to flit between Coleorton, Thringstone and Belton. Thomas Stenson was mentioned in the removal settlement/removal order of Thomas Waterfield as on of the witnesses to it. Sorry all my stuff on my laptop! Hannah Stenson married Richard Waterfield.

hi everyone, I did think of the possibility of two wives, but would it have refered to her as 'daughter' in Ann's will? Also, in Catherine Kidgers will it refers to Ann Stinson as 'sister' and her son as 'nephew'. I need to go and try and find the other childrens baptisms. Pippa - what names do you have and what time periods?

She could have been called Ann Elizabeth or Elizabeth Ann. They loved to be as confusing as possible! Anne

Are there any other families with the same name in the area? It could be a coincidence. Having said that I have a similar case where I'm looking for a baptism and can only find one (in the actual records) with the wrong father's name. It would be so easy for the clerk to write William instead of John - or even Elizabeth instead of Ann. The names were in contant use at the time. Anne

Hello! I have Stenson/Stinson in my tree from Coleorton. They all seem to be mingled in with the Bodells and the Waterfields. My Grandmother was a Waterfield. Not helping you much though!

Right, here goes... I know from the census that Ann Stinson (married name) was born c 1781 in Coleorton, Leicestershire. I found her marriage in the parish records to Thomas Stinson on the 7th February 1808. Ok. (maiden name Ayre) So, looked for a baptism and found one on the 28th December 1780, Ann Ayre, daughter of JOhn and Elizabeth, So, found a will of John, in which he mentions children Thomas, Robert, William, Ann, Elizabeth, Catherine and Samuel.... BUT.... wife is down as Ann. found will of Ann (wife of John) and mentions the above people (her children) and mentions her daughter, Ann Stinson. So, do you think the parish entry is wrong (seen original) and he wrote Elizabeth instead of Ann? Sorry if this is a bit thick but it's been a long day! Note: the will of Ann is definately, the wife of John because they both mention their daughter, Catherine, wife of Thomas Kidger)
