I had a relative called Laura, who turned up as Louisa on on one of the census returns! It all gets lost in transcription! |

In my experience it could easily be the same person if all else matches. I have an Edward Henry born in Glamorgan,Wales in 1890. In 1891 he is Edward H. ... but by 1901 he is Henry, born in Herefordshire, but the right age living in Herefordshire. By the time he married he was back to Edward Henry. Similarly my 2xG grandmother chopped and changed between Silvey, Silvia Jane or Jane on various documents. Do you want us to have a look.? Post names for a 2nd opinion, if you like. Gwyn |

If wife is same age on censuses before and after Louisa and has same birthplace, then either the enumerator made a mistake, or the person giving the information made a mistake, or maybe Louisa was one of her names. I had this once with a wife who had a different name just once. Also had a family with a son called Joseph who mysteriously became a daughter called Mary next census, but that's another story! nell |
