I've been researching my grandads family. The surname is Sutton and they are from Shipston on Stour. My grandad was John Henry and he was born in 1919. He was 5th in a family of 8 siblings. His mother was Eliza Powell born 1885 died 1930. My grandad has no fathers name on his birth cert. But I know she married George Sutton in 1903. However the 2 youngest children she had are registered with the surname Begley-Sutton but no fathers name is given. I cant find a death entry for george Sutton and how can I find out who Begley is? Are there any records kept for children that went into care in the 1920's? I had a reply from portland rose and somebody else but accidently deleted everything!

I think on your previous thread someone suggested checking electoral rolls for Mr Begley - though of course he may not ever have lived with the mother of his - alleged - children. As for the taken into care bit, I suppose first contact would be the relevant area social services. nell

Hi Mandy, I found a death for a George Edward Sutton on the CWGC site: Name: SUTTON, GEORGE EDWARD Initials: G E Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Private Regiment/Service: Worcestershire Regiment Unit Text: 1st Bn. Date of Death: 10/07/1916 Service No: 9291 Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Pier and Face 5 A and 6 C. Memorial: THIEPVAL MEMORIAL Can't remember what else I posted apart from the fact there was a gap of 10 years between the first 3 kids and the last 5. Sort of implies the last 5 were from a different relationship. Rose
