I have a relation who was born in Canada in 1895, but it appears that for some reason the birth was not registered. Now we have a document signed by her elder brother at a Town Hall in Essex on June 16th 1986 declaring that he was 12 years older than her and confirmed her identity and she is his sister. This would make him 103 years old? The form states that it is a Canadian registry form and it appears on the Ancestry Canada site. Would this have to be done to get a death certificate issued in the UK? We always believed that she died in 1979. |

Same Father's name and profession (plasterer) and same Mother's maiden name. The later census shows some of the children as being born in Toronto, so it all fits. Wonder if she could have been born on the voyage back? |

Sue, Sounds fishy ... extreme idea: could the two 'original' children have died young and the parents then had two further children who they named after the first ones??? It has happened in my line. Annie |

The problem is that the scan that we have of the original document is clearly dated as 1986 with May's date of birth as 1897, her 'Brother' attests that he is 12 years older, so he does seem to be 103 years old. We are wondering whether her birth was never registered anywhere and she died and had to have a birth registration to have a death certificate issued. Is that likely do you think? |
