I am trying to come up to date by storing things onto cdr discs. I just dont know how to do it? I have stored all my census from ancestry onto floppy discs, but I have loads of them. I have tried to store my new census from ancestry onto discs but it is not letting me. Is this an ancestry thing or am I doing something wrong. Jayne |

It really depends on which CD burning software you have. I have DirectCD which *should* let me use the CDR just like a floppy... At work we had Nero, which required you to group all your files together and burn them at once. If you have any idea which software you have then someone else might have it and you can benefit from their 'experiences' with it! Gordon |

Ha Ha Its OK Gordon. I am easily lost when it comes to computers. I was frightened to switch them on until about a year ago. I have saved the ancestry image onto my documents then put it on to the disc. Its a bit of messing about but at least I can reduce my area of saved documents now . Thankyou both of you Jayne |

First, are you sure your CD player has burning capabilities? If you have XP you have the necessary software needed. 1. Place your mouse on the file you wish to burn to CD and RIGHT click on it. 2. A drop down box will appear; click on SEND TO. 3. Another drop down box will appear; Click on CD DRIVE. 4. A pop up will appear at the bottom of your screen advising you that YOU HAVE FILES WAITING TO BE WRITTEN TO CD. You can ignore the pop-up and go back and repeat the steps above until you have sent all the files you want to burn to the CD DRIVE. 5. To view what files you've sent to be burned or to start the burn process click on MY COMPUTER. (MY COMPUTER can be acessed by clicking on START and then MY COMPUTER or there may be an icon on your desktop.) 6. Cick on CD DRIVE - you should now see all the files waiting to be burned to CD listed. (If you wish to delete anything from the list just RIGHT click on it and DELETE.) 7. Look to the left of this screen and you will note WRITE THESE FILES TO CD.....click on it and follow the prompts and the burn process should begin. Hope this helps..... Judy |

I am not at all Techie but have bought one of those 'pen sticks' which I plug into the USB hub and save on that. My computer is groaning away and I expect it to go down at any miute. Anyone know of a good one for less that £400.00? brenda |

I'm also a computer dummy - last time I tried it took me all evening to save something to the cd. I'm just bookmarking this so that next time I can refer to Judy's easy to follow instructions. Thanks Judy Lyla |
