Hi, It is so rude when someone sends a message and tells you that they are researching the same Family and they are direct Cousins to you and you think wow, at last!! you are not alone They ask if you have any info, so you say not much but you're willing to share what you have got and keep intouch and they just ignore you. I can't see why they bother with Family History, I'm just sooo glad I've not allowed them to see my tree. It does sometimes make you feel like giving up, but I wont, Its their loss and one day maybe somebody will ignore them too, see how they like it. It makes my blood boil !! It costs nothing to be polite. Ellen.

Kathlyn, at least you got a reply ...some people don't even answer.

Christina Report 3 Aug 2006 21:58

Somebody contacted me about an individual on my tree but gave no details of where and when their relative of the same name was born. I sent a friendly email to them telling them where mine was born and when, the names of their parents and their wife and said that if they thought there was a connection to email me again. I received back one of the automated 'this is not my relative' replies, as though I had initiated the whole thing. Some people are just plain unbelievable aren't they? Christina

Hi All, Perhap's it time to ask GR to remove the automated replies since it really doesn't take that long to type a few words of reply. Bye Paul

I completely agree, the automated replies are abrupt to say the least, I would call them rude. I always send a personal message and give information either to say there can or can't be a connection and send a good luck in your research at the end. It's only good manners. If I get automated messages then I am always wary that they aren'r really bothered about their research. Anne in North London

I always send a personal reply, giving a little bit of information on my side which makes it clear that it is a different family, and wishing good luck with their research. I have had many replies back thanking me for my prompt reply and reciprocating their good wishes. It only takes a minute or two - can't be that hard.....!

I hate the automated replies. I've had 2 lovely replies today from people that I contacted. Both VERY friendly and wishing me luck with my search, that makes such a difference.

Why oh why are people Soooooo rude when you have asked them if a relli is connected to them. I contacted someone who had a relli with the same name and time scale as myself. I emailed him with a VERY polite message, giving him some background and dates asking if there was a possible connection. The reply just said. 'There is no connection'. I wanted to reply that he was rude etc etc etc. but the 'nice' part of me thought that maybe he was having a bad day!!!!!!! Phewwwwwww, I have got that off my chest. Kathlyn
