And I found her listed as niece, living in Cobham. Jolly good, that makes sense, I hear you cry. Fiona Report 3 Aug 2006 16:18

Maybe it's g niece. Alice's father John might be John in Surrey's nephew??

TinaTheCheshirePussyCat Report 3 Aug 2006 16:21

John in London might have had a sister Elizabeth who married her cousin, who was also John Ledger and continued to live in Cobham. So Alice would then be their neice. Tina

Victoria Report 3 Aug 2006 16:35

I just checked the IGI and there were [at least] two Ledger families (brothers?) having children around that time. Henry and Sarah Ledger were parents of two Johns, William and Sarah had a brace of Williams. Given that people weren't always accurate with their relationships perhaps they really meant Gt Niece! Can't think of another explanation I'm afraid. Thank you people. I suppose it could be a great-niece. I was getting v confused as there are LOTS of John Ledgers in Surrey in Cobham and Chobham and other places and most of them have children called Arthur and Alice and William and Henry! Just trying to see if I can connect both Johns somehow. Thanks again for your time and trouble, I appreciate it! nell
