Sorry Sylvia As soon as you look at 1861 it's obvious they are two different people: John Tomlinson abt 1842 Belper, Derbyshire, England Servant Norbury Derbyshire John Tomlinson George, Ann abt 1841 Norton, Derbyshire, England Son Norton Derbyshire I think he's obviously mistranscribed in the earlier census along with the rest of his family. I shall keep looking though. Snowdrops

Sylvia I see your message above - no problem. I've been looking at the 1851 and (referring to the info on John to link into George) I can only see one George with son as John but that doesn't link up with John being born in Belper (as confirmed by 1861 and later census). There are only 3 John's born around 1842/44 and only one of them has the father named George. They happen to live in Norton where the Rector lives which is a little too co-incidental for my liking. It suggests to me it could be your family - the father George at this time is a farm labourer and could possibly have changed occupations between census. John Tomlinson George, Ann abt 1841 Greenhill, Derbyshire, England Son Norton Derbyshire John Tomlinson William, Matilda abt 1842 Clay Cross, Derbyshire, England Son Clay Lane Derbyshire John Tomlinson William, Mary abt 1842 Heanor, Derbyshire, England Son Heanor Derbyshire These are the 3 John's I'm referring to. If you'd like to see the 1851 again, do pm me. Snowdrops

I have recently received a marriage cert for my gt grandfather John Tomlinson married to Mary Spencer in Little Chester Dec 1863 aged 21. I cannot find a birth or christening for him anywhere,in 1861 he was with the rector of Norbury, birth is 1842. In 1871 birth is 1844 in 1881 birth is 1850 in 1891 birth is 1844 John was born in Belper Derbyshire he passed away 2nd quarter 1895 aged 51 in Derby Also on his marriage cert is his father George Tomlinson (blacksmith), Who i cant find either, i had worked out George could have been born around the 1820s?? I dont know where John fits into this family, if hes oldest or youngest or what and the name on the cert is all i have for George. I have used google, IGI, Hugh Wallis, BMDs and come up with zilch. Could someone please, look at the census from 1861 backwards for me for a George Tomlinson with son John born Belper. Hopefully his brothers and sisters might help with my search. Sylvia
