hi again. the census for 1851,61and 71 are all correct. in 1841 he is listed as 15 born in stafford but, as we know this is not necessarily true. just to throw a spanner in the works on his marriage cert his name is BESTWOOD father's initial E

hi all. thanks to all of you for yor help. sorry i had to go to work and could not reply earlier. i have him on census from 1841 to 1881, he possibly died in 1889. as i said he has various surnames. but he has been very consistant with the place worsley, although he states staffordshire it is in lancashire. i thought if i could go and have a look i might find something but i really need to be certain where the records are. once again thank you all for the help, it is mch appreciated. edith

You need to remember he may have told the enumerator the place name (verbally) and the enumerator decided where that place was (rightly or wrongly!)! Merry

I think it would probably be Salford Register Office but you would need to check. Do we have him on any census? - Do we know who he married of any other details, occupation etc? Dea x

hi thanks for that but it is before civil reg. his name was simeon but his surname has changed several times. it could be bestwood( as on his marriage) basset, bassett or bassick.(as he was known from 1861). the only consistant thing is that he was born worsley going by ages it could be anything from 1820 -1825.. on his marriage in 1845 his is stated as 20yr old. thanks edith

hi. i am trying to find the birth of mt great great grandfather. on all the census he is down as born WORSLEY although the years vary. could anyone help me by telling me where i would be able to accesss parish records for this area. i have been given conflicting info on this. i hope to go in october but don't want to spend time in the wrong place. thanks for any help. edith
