hi i've got a bit of a problemi'm trying to find my nans maiden name i was told that it was wallace but when i put in cathrine wallace washington, durham. 1870 it does'nt come up but if i put in cathrine emmerson washington durham 1870up it comes [we do have the name emmersons in our family as well] i guess what i'm trying to ask is would you take the name emmerson as it seems to match everything , thanks hazel.

I think the first port of call would be to get the birth cert of one of her children - this owuld give maiden name, if you just go with emmerson and find out later you've been following the wrong line, you'll be devestated...

If you get a birth certificate of one of your Nan's children that would (should) show her maiden name and any other names she has been known as i.e if she had a previous marriage... Hope that helps Deb

hi deb and lynne, thanks for replying my nan was married twice once to a spraggon and then to a bell but my brain must be tired as i did'nt think of b/certs thanks again hazel.
