I have a relative John Cooper which says on the 1851 that he was born in 1796 in Carshalton Surrey. I have found on the Hugh Wallis (extracted from the actual register) a John Cooper born in 1795 in Carshalton and found several other children with the same parents. Now there were no other John Coopers born in Carshalton in the time scale, do I assume this is mine or do you recomment a visit to the surrey history centre to check that there are no other John Coopers born around the same time? comments gladly received Fuzzy x

hiya fuzzy, have you got him in 1841?? does this help, also you said you have others, with same parents, as john?? I would think this is your john, if you can find any of children, and either get a marriage cert or birth cert this should confirm, whether they were indeed from same family HTH Julie

Hi Julie, John married in 1817, so marriage cert not possible, also as he was born in 1795 and the siblings a couple of years later birth certs not possible. i am pretty sure he is mine, but scared of adding him if he isn't and as John cooper is such a common name.....haven't looked for him in 1841, but dont think it will help me. would you go for him Julie? hiya, so he married, you know parents names? do they tally with bapt? would suggest looking for him in 1841 with wife, as this may help, and or find his parents in 41 as well things 'seem to point to him being yours' but think some more digging is needed first Julie

Before you head off to Woking, it might be worth contacting Sutton Archives, to see what records they hold. I know there are some good poor law records for Carshalton which might be useful.

hi Julie, As he married in 1817 I have no way of knowing his parents names, and in the 1841 he is not with his wife and family, he must be off somewhere else, mind you he had eleven children, probably needed a break!! Fuzzy x

Hi Julie, you not thick!! probably cr*p way I worded it!! This line was given to me by a cousin I met through GR, she has an almanac with the details of the wifes maiden name Elizabeth Strong and a list of all the births of the children, fascinating stuff.....anyway enough of that I found the marriage in 1817 based on a John cooper marrying a Elizabeth Strong, not hard to find on the IGI, it was a year before the first child came along. Sorry I am rabbiting on I have a tendency to do that!! LOL I want to know the details of John Coopers birth he was born around 1795 in Carshalton in Surrey, wife Elizabeth Strong born in around 1799 in chiswick middx. any help would be gladly recieved Julie Fuzzy x

Yes Julie, that is what I found together with a Charlotte and a James with the same parents, if there had been another John in a year or so of him I would have been not so convinced, but there is just the one....I suppose the question I should be asking is would the parish records have more records of other Johns not appearing on the Hugh Wallis site. thanks for listening and helping i do appreciate it. xx Fuzzy x
