Ive found out today my Aunt was adopted I went and collected her B' cert today and right at the bottom it says Adopted i am totally gutted. I went to The Council House which is our main Council building in Nottingham (deals with everything including adoptions) and they have sent me on a right wild goose chase im knackered. They arnt being at all helpfull and now seems ive got to wait till thursday to phone another department to see if they will help me. I understand data protection and that the adopted person may not want contact but why oh why do Social Services have to be so unhelpfull, Angie is now sad. Angie xx |

bit confused by your posting Angie. If you got her birth cert. and it said 'adopted', either you already knew her birth name, because original birth certs. had 'adopted' written on them if the child was then adopted. They would not have the adopted name only the birth name. Or you have her adopted name certificate, in which case you have her name anyway. There are lots of us on here with adoption experience, so we may be able to help if we know exactly what you are looking for. A date of birth is often helpful too, as things changed a bit at certain times. For example if she was born in wartime and adopted, the records often are conveniently 'lost' by the authorities. Give us a bit more info. and we'll do what we can. Eileen |

Hi Eileen xxxx Sorry some of my posts are rather confusing to people lol I know what im on about and assume that everyone else does or remembers what ive said in other posts lol. In english (ill try to explain myself proper now loL) I knew Sheilas birth name. My dad was adopted in 1937 he was born in 1931, dad always knew his birth name where he was born and that he had 2 brothers named Lloyd & Frank and knew when they were born. So with all that infor I managed to get hold of dads birth cert. I then started to do my family tree in 1999 but had to give up for a while. I restrated in May of this year, and now cus of the internet discovered that my dads biological parents not only had the 3 boys (dad lloyd & frank) but also Kathleen Mary Betty David & Sheila. I found Lloyd and we have met him twice :) I also discoverd Franks children (frank sadly passed away in 1998) I have recently discoverd that Kathleen died at 2 1/2 yrs Mary Betty & David all died within a year or just after thier first b'days. That left just Sheila, Sheila was born Sheila Webb she was born on the 29th April 1941 in Nottingham (87 Goldsmith Street Nottingham) I collected her birth certificate today (Lloyd & Frank were both placed into care as little kids dad was adopted at 6yrs) untill I got Sheila's birth certificate today I didnt know whether she too had been placed into care or had been adopted the same as dad. (I knew that it would tell me on the birth cert if she had been adopted as it tells on dads that he was hence the reason I needed her B'cert to find out either way) So thats why im sad :( as it will take me longer to trace her (i will trace her cus im determined to) Social services in Nottingham are not forthcoming in giving me info I have now printed out the Goverments new rules on whom can get access to the information and being a birth neice im entitled to the info so I can show Nottingham social services. So what im looking for is Sheila's Adoptive name. So if anyone knows how I can get this information pls pls could you let me know as im really desperate for the information, and I would be so very gratefull. Luv Angie xxx |
