I've just ordered one for Saturday. I found it by searching for the name of the POW camp. The gentleman was not on the same ship as dad but was in the same camp, so hopefully I'll be able to find out some more. I found it fruitful to search for particualr areas last time I was at kew as it led me to other files of letters and war crime correspondence. See you Saturday!! Sharonx

Hi Deb I'll be on the same learning curve as I've got to look at one too. This is the research guide which should explain them: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/rdleaflet.asp?sLeafletID=20 It looks as if the reference for most of them is WO 95

Yes, they are still there. There are various ways of searching on them. You could type in the Quick Search box 'War Diary' - but you'll get a list of thousands of entries...another way is to go into the Refine Search box and type in a year e.g. '1914' - in the Other Keywords box. This should narrow it down to several hundred entries and you will have to scroll through to find the regiment you want. Yet another way to search is, again, by going into the Refine Search box and typing the name of the regiment you are after in the Other Keywords box - again, you'll get quite a lot of entries coming up but a lot of them will be war diaries. You are then able to order the war diary pages online - saves a trip to Kew if you only want a few pages. Hope that helps.

I have just looked at the TNA site to see what war diaries they hold but can't seem to find any record of them?? Do they still hold the diaries and if so has anyone got any tips for searching them....I am hoping to get to Kew on the 5th and thought I could take a look at them. Deb
