My grandfather Franics Douglas Stowell, worked at the Army and Navy Store in Victoria London, for over 40 years. Do you think that there would be any point in contacting them to see if they had any records for him? Does the store still exist? He died before I was born, so I never got to meet him and I am just trying to find out as much as possible. Thanks Lynn

I think it closed a few years back. Have a google for it. I would have thought as they were first created as a military style supplier they may well have kept good records. Just googled for you - The House of Fraser have taken it over: Address: Army & Navy 101 Victoria Street, London , SW1E 6QX See on a map Telephone: 087 0160 7268

Thanks Heather, I did google, but the references I found just listed it as being opposite or near what the article was referring to. I am hoping that as he was there so long, they might have some record of him. Lynn

Well, Id give them a ring and ask for Personnel (or Human Resources as they call it nowdays). You may strike lucky and find someone helpful. However, as they will be bound by privacy, you may only get general info about the store at the time your uncle was there - but that would be nice anyway if they send you photos etc.
