Morning all. As most of my tree is based in Scotland, I'm still a bit green around the edges when it comes to looking up my husband's English side. My husband's Gx4Grandparents were Ephraim Godbolt (born 1820 in Stradbroke, died 1850 in Chelsea) and Catherine McKain (aka Kate, Kata - whatever the enumerator wanted to call her....born 1823 in Heveringham Suffolk). They had 2 children Emma (born 1846 in Suffolk) and Edgar (born 1848 in Chelsea). I'm fine with Edgar as I'm married to one of his direct decendants BUT I really am not getting far with Emma. I have her on the 1851 Census, listed as Emma Godbold, age 5 of Syleham, Suffolk. She is living in Laxfield with her aunt & uncle, Susannah Howard (nee McKain) and William Howard. I have her in 1861 in London with her Mother (Catherine) and Step-father Lathan (or Latham) Godbolt (yes Catherine married deceased husband's younger brother). Having gone through the Ancestry BMDs there is a marriage in 1864 of an Emma Godbolt in Lambeth, ref 1d 733, but there are no others on the page......I was kind of hoping to get the two male names & check them off against a later census to see which one she married. So where do I go from here? I did trawl through the 1871 census for all Emmas born in Suffolk in 1845/6 but my eyes started popping out of my head and my brain went dead. Anything to help on this will be very much appreciated. Thank you for reading this. All the best Donna

Sorry Merry, didn't quite understand your message re Robert & Emma.... These Godbolts have been menaces, bless them, until 4 of the 5 brothers went to London in the 1840s they were all firmly esconced in Wilby/Stradbroke/Hoxne, Suffolk but changed their names at will from Godbolt to Godbold depending on who was asking. Just went to go onto Ancestry to follow up on Henry Lee and his Emma in 1871 and realised my credits ran out yesterday......I think I might start today again, preferably with my brain in..lol. Me again Merry, Was busy writing to you while you were posting, so I am now typing really fast. I take it that 1861 is 1871? That does look like it is them as the family names do match, Edgar, Alice etc. Gives me a lot more to go on than the woman who married herself. Thank you Donna x

Sorry to butt in, but if she married in 1864, surely she wouldn't have been Emma Lee in 1861? Lynn
