It is a bit like someone coming along and doing a load of the jigsaw you had been playing with, without asking you first, isn't it? Even if they undo the part they have done, you still know the jigsaw is possible to do and that someone else has already seen the final picture. If you are very strong willed you could put their results to one side and only look at them after you have done your own research.......! Merry

Having just come across a family tree with eight of the names on my tree on it... and 15,000 others, I sympathise with the dilemma you face. To my mind, I'm not going to put any of that stuff on my tree until I have checked it out. I may use it as a collection of leads, but I'm not going to take any of it as the truth. I had been thinking of compiling *two* trees; one with every rumour and link I can find and a second, proper, tree that meets my standards of proof (which are probably quite lax anyway...). Then I had a lie down and that idea went away! Gordon

HI Emma, I've had this happen to me too... I just made a note of everything and now I'm going through it all, double checking against the parish records, census etc. I don't like to trust any information until I've checked it myself. That way, I still get the pleasure of looking and finding! Hope that helps, Sue.

I contacted another GR member who had a match with my tree and it turns out to be an actual match. She has a website with all of the tree on it, much more info than I already have. I have used it to check the line I have matches but I don't know whether to use the info to add to my tree or not as I quite like finiding it all out for myself! What would you do?
