Had a hotmatch with my GGMx2. Person kindly sent me a mail saying she had opened her tree to me but couldnt work out the connection but the family were there, have a look. But when I look GGMx2 and her bros and sis are there and then her parents BUT there is no-one coming downwards or sideways from any of them????

This is something to do with GR's living people tick box (the one that makes living people vanish if they are aged under 120) I thought they would show as Living Smith, or whatever, but from another thread it would seem they don't show at all!! Great isn't it??!!! Merry

Maybe she put an 'unrelated individual' on FTM as notes and then it got uploaded somehow? Have you asked her about it?

Well when she told me she had given me access she said the tree is so big now I havent worked out the connection. Ive just sent her another mail saying I cant either as there is no linking anywhere. I cant see its the living persons thing Merry as the last people on this family is my GGMX2 and her siblings born back at beginning of 19th century? They must be connected somewhere to be on the GR tree.

Best wait and see what she comes up with then! Merry

Heather, would you mind telling us how to connect them if you find out? I've got one with my GGM and can't connect them either. I don't know how you even put someone on your tree without connecting them to someone. I can't find the 'living' persons thingy.

Elizabeth.... The hide living persons tick box is in ''My Account Details''. It hides anyone on your GR tree aged under 120, who doesn't have a date of death. Merry

Could be a glitch n GR's tree system............yet again. I found two lots of my rellies entered twice in my tree. One entry they are connected to the family, the other they are hanging in deep space. And l know l didn't put them there.

But this lot would be about 200 years old not 120. Oh gawd, GR strikes again. Thank gawd most of us have our trees elsewhere.

Heather, that happened to me too, a nice member opened their tree for me, But all i could find was my family sitting out on its own. So i asked what the link was between the families and when he told me, i looked again, using HIS family name and there it was, all connected Sylvia

I had the same thing, the guy had 11 of my rellies on his tree but I can not find any connection to anything. I don't think it is the living rellie thing as it looks different on someone elses tree I've seen. I have asked him but he hasn't responded so I can't work out the relationship. If you can work it out please let me know. Toni

The lady has just sent me another email, bless - saying that she merged her tree with someone elses and this seems to have happened since.

Hi, I have a few 'hanging families' in family tree maker, but not on GR. They have the same very unusual surname and are in the same area as mine but I have yet to find a link - could that be it? Gwynne

It is easy to have family groups unconnected with a members ancestors in GR if you import a GEDCOM that has information in that form. What I don't understand is why GR creates multiple instances of the same person with an imported file when they only exist once. GR claims that the problem must be in the GEDCOM itself, but I am not convinced.
