Hi everyone xxx I wonder if someone could help me please as im getting things wrapped round my neck. This is what I have and my theories am I right? or wrong as usual and trying to pinch the wrong family lol. I am trying to find the birth of my great grandad. On my grandads marriage cert in 1930 it says Father James Webb deceased Civil Engineer Nottingham I have his marriage cert 14th July 1906 Jmes Webb Electrical engineer 41 yrs bachelor (think that a fib and hes knocked 6 yrs off his age may be wrong tho) living in Nottingham Fathers name William Webb Deceased Civil Engineer he married Alice Hooton 25 yrs (think thats a fib too and she added a few years to her age as found her on 1901 census and shes only 14 yrs) Father Arthur Hooton Iron Planer. Now ive found a James Webb born 1860 born in Weybridge Surrey with a dad named William (he was christened in dec 1860 at Weybridge Church found that on LDS site) do ya think thats his birth. Cant find a birth in Nottingham with the dads name as william. or am I barking up the wrong tree again. Thank you for helping me xxxxxxxxxx luv angie xxx |

Just found him James Webb Age: 4 Mo Estimated birth year: abt 1860 Relation: Son Father's name: William Mother's name: Susanh Gender: Male Where born: Weybridge, Surrey, England Civil parish: Weybridge County/Island: Surrey Country: England Street address: Occupation: Condition as to marriage: View image Registration district: Chertsey Sub-registration district: Walton ED, institution, or vessel: 8 Neighbors: View others on page Household schedule number: 58 Household Members: Name Age Susanah Pearce 55 Edward Webb 4 Eliza Webb 2 James Webb 4 Mo John Webb 11 Susanh Webb 27 William Webb 35 William Webb 8 Well the occupation matches angie, will have a look and see if I can see any others for you, but it does look a likely match. Just looked on Ancestry, there dont appear to be any James Webbs born in 1860 in the nottingham area Fuzzy |

Angie, I could only see one william webb living in Nottinghamshire on the 1861 as a head of house and he was an AG Lab, so it does look very possible that you have found the right family. I think James moved to nottinghamshire in later life, but wasn't born there. Fuzzy x |

Angie, Thought I had better check the 1871 for James webbs born around 1866 (in case he not fibbing about his age) with fathers called william....so far no williams who are engineers..will keep checking Fuzzy |

Angie, I have looked at dozens of williams none of whom have a James as a son born between 1860-1867 . I have found shepherds, jewellers, Ag labs, shoemakers and even a farmer who has 300acres!! but no engineers apart from the one in weybridge! However after an hour I am goggled eyed, so leaving it now. Think if I were you I would be relatively sure about the one I had found BUT if it were me I would check every James on the 1861/71 census with a father william and eliminate them all, you are lucky that it is an engineer you are looking for and not an ag lab!! Good luck Fuzzy |

sorry sorry sorry everyone bloody storm cut my broadband connection again scream and its only just come back on (will NTL compensate me nah as if lol) Thank you all so very much xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I promise you wasnt talking to ya selfs :(((((((((((( Ive searched through BMD's too and that was the only James I saw as well so fibbing bout his age I think is right (funny thing is his sons wife my nanna lied bout her name and bloody age what a nightmare that was took me weeks to find the truth out eek) This family is a right nightmare to sort out. My grandad (John Webb Jame's son) died in 1941 aged just 33 my nanna was very secrative about him his family etc. My dad was adopted at 6yrs and the only info he has is that his family wernt born in this country hence my excitement at someone on this board may have been Merry or tinsel pants or fuzzy xxxxxxx ill have to have a look and say a massive thank you. My new found cousin (dads real neice) also said her dad had said exactly the same that there was foreign blood. I got grandads (John Webb) marriage cert & birth cert great grandads(James Webb) marriage cert so I know the info I have is correct so far but I was struggling to find James Webb birth as I had no idea where he was born. So thank you all very much xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I appreciate all your help from the bottom of my heart xxxxxxxxxx please cross ya fingers that NTL be good for the rest of the night so I can go searching again lol. Luv Angie xxxxxxxx |

ive just ordered the birth cert for James Webb born in Weybridge 1860 (quickly before NTL mess about again grrrr) but how do I know if i have the right one scream as all I know still is that James dad was named William Webb and that he was an engineer, nothing else and I really dont want to pinch someone else's family again (i did that when I first started lol) I have also found a death for a James Webb in Nottingham how do i make sure its the right one? And how come death certs for the 1930+ dont say where the person was born but they do on recent ones why dont the old ones tell you that? does the registar office know where the person was born do ya think? Luv Angie xxxxxxxxxxxx |

Good Luck Angie, You are welcome for the help, just wish I could have found proof positve that you had the right one. It is a shame that death certs pre 1930 do not have place of birth, that would have been invaluable for me too for some of my more elusive rellies. Judging from the searching I did yesterday evening, I would be fairly confident that the James in weybridge was correct as after looking at dozens and dozens of williams I couldn't find another engineer. Unfortunately without any other info (like his mums name) you have to rely on dads occupation as an engineer, as I said though you are lucky that he wasn't an ag lab!! Fuzzy x |
