How can I find the maiden name of a mother. I have a rellie, Charlotte Firkins brn abt 1812 west bromwich staffs. All that is shown on the lds site for her parnets is Thomas Firkins and Susanna, I can find no marriage for them on this site. I have been in touch with sandwell council, who have the church regs, and they have informed me that on her christening reg it just has susanna. Where do I go now |

Hi - I've just done a search for you on familyhistoryonline.net and although there was only one marriage showing for a THOMAS FIRKIN in STAFFS (in 1760 which is too early I think), there is another entry listed for GREATER BIRMINGHAM (my geography isn't brilliant so excuse me if the two are nowhere near each other!): Date 1 Jan 1794 Groom – Thomas FIRKIN Status – Home – Bride Susanna HADLEY Status – Home – Church Handsworth Extra Details – Athena |

Handsworth used to be Staffordshire, but now comes under Birmingham. Registers at Birmingham Central Library |

I just looked up West Bromwich on Genuki and found this snippet - which kind of adds weight to the above marriage entry I found...so looking more possible! ''West Bromwich is a populous parish, lying between Wednesbury and Handsworth, and containing a long chain of villages and streets, which form one widely-spread town extending from the vicinity of Wednesbury, on the Birmingham road, to within three and a half miles NW of Birmingham, and three miles E of Dudley.' |

You're welcome! Glad to have helped. The only thing I've noticed is, regarding that list of baptisms above - the Charlotte there was born 1802 - whereas you say that your Charlotte was born 1812. Was the 1812 year a definite find? The other possibility is that the couple had one child named Charlotte who may have died young and then they had another daughter of same name a bit later on. Just some thoughts on it, anyway. Regards Athena |

Lynda, Family born to Thomas Firkin and Susanna according to LDS site: Elizabeth - christened 13/8/1794 Mary - christened 2/11/1795 Triphaena - christened 6/6/1797 Thomas - christened 4/11/1799 Charlotte - christened 7/6/1802 William - christened 21/4/1805 I would suggest looking for a marriage around 1792-4 Kristeen |
