I was of the impression that irrespective of the percentage vote all those who agreed would have their details released after the stipulated period whilst those that did not agree, left Q60 unanswered or failed to sign census would have their details shredded I also understand that the government would prefer to retain the data but the current legal position doesn't allow them to without prior consent I posted this yesterday Added By Ancestral Thylacine on 30/07/2006 12:14:04 | Update Message | Delete Message From http://www.aigs.org.au/census2006.htm The Census Time Capsule will be conducted as part of the 2006 Census and each person in Australia will have the opportunity to indicate on the Census form whether or not they want to be part of it. People can elect to have their census information along with their name and address kept securely in a vault by the National Archives of Australia for 99 years. In the year 2105, the vault will be opened and the 2006 Census information for people who agreed to be in the time capsule will be available. This will help our descendants trace their family trees and will be available for any other research purpose. The Time Capsule has the support of the Parliament and many other bodies, but participation is optional. Identifiable census information will only be included in the time capsule for those individuals who specifically elect to be part of it. People indicate their intentions regarding the time capsule at the end of the census form. If you tick no, leave the question blank or don't sign the form, your name and address will be destroyed once processing of your form has been completed. for those who dont visit the Records page I was asked to pass this on to everyone Hi everyone, To all those who will be filling in the Australian Census Form for 2006: You may not be aware that the Government intention (or wish) is to SHRED these forms after use. This would be a real problem for those in the future trying to trace Their roots in Australia. There is provision for you to 'have your say' In the Census form Question #60 gives you the opportunity to vote For Keeping the information for the future, the question states that the information will not be released to the public for 99 years . Please tick YES for each person in the house on the night of the census and hopefully we have enough voting for the retention of the info knowing It will not be released for 99yrs. I don't think it would be a problem to most people to have there whereabouts published for 2006 in 99 years? If you are on other lists and know that there are Australians members Please forward this information soon as the Census forms are being distributed now. Please help, remember TICK YES for everyone in the house for the night of the census to retian the census information to be released in 99 years to researchers Wendy
