hello can anyone give me any advice on how to find out my great aunts real name the family always called her alma any help would be gratefully recieved

Don't these people who get called by other names drive you mad? All my life I have called my Aunt Sheila, then I've just discovered her real name is Lorna. Are you sure Alma wasn't her real name?

Alma is a real name. Do you know when and where she was born? If so, have a look at the GRO birth register index. nell

i know that she was my grandad's older sister so i have the maiden name i belive that her real name might be audrey but nobody can confirm it. thanks rikki

Rikki If you don't give us the information you have we can't help! What was her maiden name and roughly when/where was she born?

If you give us her surname and when and where your grandad was born, someone might be able to find her birth reference which will have her proper name. Kath. x

her maiden name was Lane she was born around 1910 in brighton i think and i've only got her fathers name which was Henrey Marshall Lane

Are you sure about the place of birth? If not then there is this birth which looks a likely contender:- Audrey Alma Lane, June qtr. 1910, Oxford, 3a, 1108 You could order this birth certificate and give the father's name that you have as a checking point. They will then only send the certificate if the father's name matches what you give them. If it's not then they will refund £4 of the £7 cost. Kath. x
