I have found Emma's first husband (2nd husband another mystery - on the census but no sign of marriage) and husbands for 3 of the sisters. But Mary Ann is driving me MAD. She has such a common blinky name. Baptised 16 Dec 1838, her parents were William Moore, a carpenter, and Susannah nee Browning. I THINK I've found her in 1851 and 1861 and then nothing. 1851 HO107/1760 359 p.21 Cambridge St Andrew the Less 9 Albert Street, Thomas Browning abt 1810 Cambridgeshire, Head cordwainer Anturantte[image looks just like that] Browning abt 1823 Swaversey, Cambridgeshire, Wife laundress Thomas Browning abt 1838 Cambridgeshire, Son scholar Alfred Browning abt 1850 Cambridgeshire, Son James Dalton abt 1781 Cambridgeshire, Lodger cordwainer >>>Mary Moore abt 1840 Cambridgeshire, Servant house servant I think this is Mary Ann because Browning is her mother's maiden name and her dad was a cordwainer and I can't find any other candidates, although her age is a bit out. 1861 14 Cornwall Street, Finsbury Holloway St James Joseph Bishop abt 1792 Packington, Warwickshire Head clothier Elizabeth Bishop abt 1796 Sonning, Berkshire, Wife Emily Bishop daur 28 b. London Edward Thompson abt 1838 Nettledon, Hertfordshire, Nephew apprentice clothier Cathern Harganna abt 1822 Grosmont [looks like Greenwich], Kent, Servant cook >>> Mary A Moore abt 1839 Cambridgeshire, Servant housemaid I think this is her, as her sister Emma lived v. near Cornwall Street, Holloway in the 1860s and I conjectured that they both moved to London for work, possibly one following the other. After 1861 - nothing. I've exhausted every Mary Ann born within 2 years of 1838 in Cambridgeshire, dismissing those definitely NOT born in Cambridge and cross checking marriages with likely husbands on the census. Please can someone throw me some sympathy!

Nell, Just done my maths and by 1871 she would have been 33 and almost certainly married. Looked on Ancestry at marriages for a Mary Ann Moore 1862 onwards in London......OH MY GOD there are loads......do sympathise...I will have a look for likely husbands as you have and see if a can find a Mary Ann ? born in 1838 in Cambridgeshire living in London or possibly anywhere else!! on the 1871/1881 census.....I suppose there is also the possibility that she could have died. 20 Minutes later and banging my head against the wall, there are just too many Mary Ann ? born 1838/9 in cambridgeshire on the 1871 have tried 4 likely husbands but no luck!! Fuzzy

1. There are 7 Mary Moores who get married in Cambridgeshire between 1861 and 1871. Husbands are Cross, Haddow, Wedlock, Woods, Everitt, Whitmore and Peck. 2. What was Emma's second husband's name? Jim

Just adding before I turn in Nell :)) did a stab at Islington 1861-1871 marriages for Mary... 1861 James Corrick Thomas Hobson Alfred Mileham 1868 William Cooke William May 1869 William Andrews Benjamin Clarke but alas, checking them on Census, can't seem to match Cambridge with them :(( Sending much sympathy Nell, tomorrow is another day as the saying goes, she's there somewhere!... Signing off now, time for shuteye! Chris :)

Thanks all for looking! I think I've exhausted the Mary Ann Moore marriages in London area and no luck in Cambs either. Emma's 2nd husband was John Garvie - others on these boards are now yawning and going 'oh flip, not HIM again!' Emma's lst husband died 1st May 1879 in Islington. Last known address 90 George's Road, Holloway. Emma appears 1881 census with John Garvie as husband in Greenwich and their first boy John Garvie is born in May 1881 -also in Greenwich. 1884 John died in East Molesey and their final child William was born, also East Molesey. I haven't found a marriage in the GRO records or in various parish registers in both Islington and Greenwich. Haven't found previous marriage for John either - had thought perhaps if he was already married it might explain why he & Emma didn't tie the knot. nell

As a process of elimination it won't be these men she married as i have just checked the IGI and these marriages have the wrong father for Mary Ann Moore Not john stevens wrong father Not Richard Stevenson 1862 wrong father Not henry Richardson wrong father I know this doesn't help much but at least it's three less to look for Good Luck Yvonne
