I just downloaded a copy of an ancestors will dated 1881, she left just under £3000.00 sterling to her children. Can anyone tell me how much that would be nowadays ?

She split it up between her 2 daughters and 1 son, but left the girls as the trustees and added that it was to be the girls decision whether or not their brother recieved his share or it was diveded between his children, so i gather the son was a bit of a rogue. Debbie x

national archives reckons it would be worth £144,930.00p but I would have thought that that was under estimated in terms of real value. If you think of the size of house you could buy in the early 70s for a couple of grand and how much they'd cost now? Son must have been a bit frivalent with his pennies! ;o)
