Member Since: March 2005 Posts: 334 Send Message	Ive got a couple in my tree who show on census info as adopted but the children involved have kept their own name. one little girl was born on a ship in the atlantic ocean. wonder what happened to her mother. bless her.

	Legal adoption did not exist until 1927, so it is likely they agreed to take over the care of the boy, but there would have been no paperwork to say so. It is quite feasible that the child would have kept their own name. Liz
