Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 30 Jul 2006 03:31

C&P from Genuki 'ST. GEORGE IN THE EAST, a parish in the Tower division of the hundred of Ossulstone, county Middlesex, 2 miles E. of St. Paul's, London. Previous to 1727 it formed a hamlet in the parish of Stepney, but is now a metropolitan parish, entirely built over, except such portion as is occupied by the London Docks. See London. [By Cannon Street Road.] If memory serves, the parish is 'lost' in the last two census returns, the districts changed after 1881.But don't quote me. Glen

In todays East London, St George in the East would be roughly where Whitechapel is... Think of the area The London Hospital is in (Trauma on TV) or where Jack the Ripper used to prowl. Sandra
